Legislators Wieder & Soskin: Project Will Create Park Setting For Families, Improve Accessibility
ย Rockland County legislators unanimously approved contracts to allow the construction of a special new walking path at Lake Suzanne in Monsey.
โI listened carefully to the people living around Lake Suzanne and they made their request very clear: They wanted the area to be beautified so families and neighbors have an appropriate place to visit,โ Rockland County Legislator Aron Wieder said. โI am happy to report that we are finally moving forward with a significant project that will create a parklike setting and make the lake area more accessible to families and neighbors.โ
The project will feature a newly constructed boardwalk with bump outs over the water to provide visitors with places to sit and enjoy the lake view. Additional benches will also be placed along other areas of the boardwalk as part of the overall $2 million project.
The Legislature approved the use of federal American Rescue Plan Act Funds through the countyโs Urban Green Space Grant Program to pay for the project. After a public bidding process was conducted, the Legislature approved awarding about $1.8 million to the ADP Group Inc. of New Jersey for the construction of the Lake Suzanne Walking Path.
โWe saw how important green space and access to it became during the pandemic,โ Rockland County Legislator Phil Soskin said. โBut even before then, we knew improvements were needed at Lake Suzanne. This is something myself and Legislator Wieder have been working on for a long time and it is great to see it will finally be completed.โ
The County previously completed significant improvements at the site in 2022 with the addition of a new dam that is up to date with modern safety standards.
โWhen all is said and done, these improvements to a well-visited area will provide a beautiful place for residents to enjoy some peaceful time near the lake, and in their lives,โ Legislator Soskin said.
