2024- A New York Sports year to remember!

I have been doing sports content professionally as a broadcaster in New York since 2011.

There have been good years and then my oh my, there have been some duds!

2024 I can say without hesitation is the craziest New York sports year collectively that I can remember in quite some time and most certainly since I got cranking 13 plus years ago!

Where to begin.

Well, 2024 will always be remembered as the year of Juan Soto.

Soto was traded from the Padres to the Yankees and his future became immediate conversation fodder.

He put together one of the best one and done years in the history of players headed to free agency.

Of course it was capped off by an at bat for the ages, a homer in the Cleveland night that sent the Yankees to their first World Series since 2009.

That trip to the World Series in Yankee land didnt exactly go as planned. Freddie Freeman and the 5th inning of Game 5 will forever live in infamy. 

The story of Soto culminated with a free agency decision that delighted one NY fan base and enraged the other.

Soto’s decision to bolt the Yankees for the Mets will be talked about for years to come around town, for better or worse.

The Mets didn’t just wow in 2024 off the field.

They put together one of the most fun, feel good seasons in the history of the franchise.

From OMG to Grimmace and a whole lot of big hits, the Mets unexpected ride to the NLCS will be fondly remembered.

After all, the Mets may have had three of the most dramatic home runs in franchise history in the span of three weeks. Lindor in Atlanta, Alonso in Milwaukee and Lindor again to send the Phillies packing.

The baseball teams weren’t the only stories to leave us smiling.

The Knicks once again won a playoff series and Jalen Brunson continued to shine.

Chris Kreider’s hat trick in Game 6 will live as an all time clutch Rangers performance in a close out game.

The Liberty made history winning their first WNBA title selling out the Barclays Center in the process. 

And then, the football teams.

Well, they stunk! 

However, between coaching and quarterback changes, there was truly never a dull moment !

Hats off 2024. Lets do it again next year, but with some better football please!
