All in With John Jastremski

Was Timing Right for Rodgers Divorce?

After the Jets hired their new head coach Aaron Glenn back in January, the next monstrous organization decision surrounded the future of Aaron Rodgers.

Glenn was incredibly vague in his opening press conference regarding Rodgers future and there was a lot of speculation and debate amongst Jets fans.

Should he stay or go?

Well, last week the Jets made it official.

The franchise is moving on from Aaron Rodgers after 2 seasons that without question did not live up to expectations.

There is no debating that the massive expectations for Rodgers coming to the Big Apple were not met, but did the Jets make the right decision for 2025 season?

To me, they clearly did not.

Itโ€™s impossible to argue that the Jets will end up with a better quarterback in 2025 than Aaron Rodgers.

Rodgers, despite his age, delivered statistically one of the best seasons a Jets quarterback has had in the last 20 years.

Surely that speaks to the substandard quarterback play the franchise has had, but think about this for a minute.

If I had told you in September of 2024 that Aaron Rodgers would play 17 games, throw for around 4,000 yards and 28 touchdowns, what would you have set the over/under for wins for the Jets last year?

Double digits right?

Not quite the story for the 2024 Jets, but it was obvious that Aaron Rodgers gotmore and more comfortable as the season went on coming back from the Achilles injury.

Is he the MVP QB he was for years? Not quite, but he still can play the position at a high enough level in the present.

The Jets needed a bridge QB for the 2025 season and he was under contract.

If I were Aaron Glenn, in year 1, I would want the best chance to win. Rodgers gives you that.

Now, the company line coming out of Jet land is going to be that Rodgers and the Jets were not aligned philosophically.

Youโ€™ll hear about distractions, Pat McAfee interviews and the idea of the new regime needing to start fresh.

Sounds great in theory, but the job of winning football games became that much tougher next season.

Let the QB search begin once againโ€ฆ
