This past Sunday, the Town of Haverstraw Police worked in collaboration with the Rockland County Department of Probation to conduct home visits for Haverstraw residents on probation. These home visits focused on those with probationary conditions concerning weapon offenses, drug offenses, and registered sex offenders. ย
โIt is important that individuals on probation in Haverstraw understand that the Haverstraw Police Department and Rockland County Probation are committed to ensuring they comply with the stipulations of their probation,โ said Haverstraw Police Chief John Gould. โAt any given time, they should expect a knock on their door.โ
These home visits are implemented not only to ensure that residents are following the conditions of their probation, but also to inform the officer of the living conditions of the resident. This allows the officer to assess the situation of a parolee in a more holistic fashion and provide resources to the individual such as mental health support or job counseling. These visits allow the officer to work with family members or members of the home to create a space where the opportunity for crime is greatly reduced or eradicated.
