My husband and I really enjoy reading your column each week. Youโre so knowledgeable about antiques and history we learn a great deal. We hope you will be able to give us some information on this glass vase. It belonged to my husbandโs grandmother. It measures 8โ tall and in perfect condition. The color is spectacular, so vibrant and beautiful when the light shines through it.ย We absolutely love it. It is so pretty. We are in the process of dividing our possessions among our children, but none of our children want, or have any interest in this vase. I guess we will end up just donating it to Goodwill. Before I donate it however, I wanted to ask your opinion about it. Does it have any monetary value and how old it may be. It just seems so special and different. Thank you for your time and anticipated help.

ย Iโm happy you enjoy reading โAsk the Appraiserโ each week and itโs wonderful that you learn a thing or two about antiques. Itโs my pleasure to furnish you with some information about your vase. This large cameo glass vase was produced in England between 1890 to 1910, by the renowned Thomas Webb & Sons Glass Company. Your large, shouldered form vase features a vibrant yellow satin finish ground with a beautiful enamel motif of graceful flowers and leaves as accents. As is usually the case, I noticed the base is unmarked. Webb cameo glass is rarely signed. In all my years as an antique dealer, I have only encountered one piece that was actually acid etched signed on the base.ย In the matter of evaluating the value of cameo glass, it is the quality that matters, and please allow me to say that your example has all the bells and whistles. The deep carvings are sharp and crisp, giving this vase a three-dimensional appearance. Very important, you mention the vase has remained in โperfect condition.โ That being the case, the current retail value of this vase is $800 USD. I cannot overemphasize the importance of a damage free vase. One tiny chip or crack will greatly diminish its value. Obviously, this art glass vase is something quite substantial and best not to donate. My best wishes to you and your husband.
