Moshe Hopstein Appointed to Rockland County Legislature

Spring Valley Residents Fills Vacant Seat In District 13

Rockland County legislators voted unanimously Tuesday to appoint Moshe Hopstein to fill the District 13 seat left vacant by a former legislator elected to state office.

โ€œIt is a privilege to become part of this distinguished group of public servants, and I feel both humbled and thankful for this remarkable opportunity,โ€ Legislator Hopstein said. โ€œI have dedicated myself to serving the public interest for a long time, and I eagerly anticipate continuing this work at the county level.โ€

Rockland County Legislature Majority Leader Alden Wolfe moved the resolution appointing the new legislator.

โ€œMoshe Hopstein โ€“ a devoted husband, father, and diligent businessman with a proven history of public service โ€“ is the right and qualified candidate for this position.โ€

Legislator Hopstein, a native of Rockland County who was born at Good Samaritan Hospital, serves as Chairman of the Village of Spring Valley Zoning Board of Appeals, assisted property owners while working at the Town of Ramapo Assessorโ€™s Office, and served in the early 2000s on the East Ramapo Central District Board of Education, where he actively supported parents of children with special needs.

Legislator Hopstein is a New York state-licensed real estate broker with more than 30 yearsโ€™ experience and is president of the Landslide Realty Corp. He and his wife are parents of eight children and four grandchildren.

Legislator Hopstein fills the District 13 seat previously held by Aron Wieder, who now serves in the New York State Assembly. District 13 includes a significant part of Spring Valley and part of unincorporated Ramapo. The Rockland County Legislature has 17 districts in all.

Rockland County Legislator Joel Friedman seconded the resolution.

โ€œI am happy and honored to second the nomination of Moshe Hopstein because he is truly the right person for the job,โ€ Legislator Friedman said. โ€œHe possesses not only the necessary experience but also a genuine love for the community, which is essential for any elected official representing their district.โ€

On behalf of the entire governmental body, Rockland County Legislature Chairman Jay Hood Jr. welcomed Legislator Hopstein to the 17-member board.

โ€œI look forward to working with Legislator Hopstein as he embarks on his legislative journey,โ€ Chairman Hood said. โ€œMy door is always open, and I am more than willing to help in any way possible. Itโ€™s essential that all of us โ€“ all 17 of us โ€“ work together to address the challenges our community faces and to promote initiatives that will make a positive impact in the lives of those we serve.โ€

Surrounded by family members, Legislator Hopstein was sworn in by Rockland County District Attorney Judge Thomas Walsh. A representative from the County Clerkโ€™s Office oversaw the signing of the elected officialsโ€™ log.
