Alien Spotted in Rockland County!

Breaking News: The Rockland County Times has spotted the first extraterrestrial life present on Earth!

On a regular Tuesday afternoon, while getting her customary lunchtime ice cream, Community Editor Sierra Lidén stumbled upon a small humanoid figure. The figure stood about four feet tall and displayed dewy green skin, saucer sized black eyes, and two slits that seemed to function as a nose. Not one to judge a new Rocklander, Sierra offered the supposed alien her chocolate and vanilla swirl with rainbow sprinkles. The horizontal line underneath the nose cracked upwards into what the Community Editor could only assume was an interpretation of her own smile. When the alien opened his mouth the only noise that escaped was a musical tune not dissimilar to the stylings of Beethoven. Interestingly, these musical notes were superseded by communication planted directly in Lidén’s head. “Greetings, human,” said the little green man. “My name is GłœĘŠæh.” Not sure how to respond, Lidén thought back as hard as she could. “My, what a beautiful name. Do you mind if I call you Greg? I’m not sure we make those phonetics on my planet.” “What does Greg mean?” questioned the space visitor, his oval shaped head tilting to the side. Lidén whipped out her phone, fingers flying as she googled “Greg name meaning”. “It means watchful or vigilant,” she thought back. “Wonderful,” said Greg, bringing his head upright once more.

Greg and Sierra decided to take a stroll down Main Street in Nyack to help Greg get a true taste of Rockland. The two shared a cultural exchange as they sampled a Chocolate Tart with Vanilla Bean Crème Brulee from Didier Dumas, had a full American Breakfast at The Breakfast and Burger Club, treated themselves to some charcuterie from Scott and Joe, and finished up with a matcha latte from Art Cafe. To walk off all the delicious food, the odd pair took a stroll around the Hopper House Museum, where Greg used his spider-like fingers to create an artistic masterpiece.

Even though Greg was very different looking from most Rocklanders, everyone greeted him with a smile, eager to share their culture with someone who had traveled so far to meet them. 1,129,747,039,282 miles to be precise.

As they returned to Greg’s space ship, Lidén sent him a question “Were you the one everyone was seeing zooming around the sky a few months ago?”. “Yes,” answered Greg, accompanied by a garbled giggle. “My siblings and I were investigating the area you call New York State in order to locate the best county to get a true Human Experience.” His colossal, cosmic eyes met Lidén’s. “I believe I have found it. Thank you for showing me Rockland, Sierra Lidén.” “Come back anytime,” thought Lidén. “There’s plenty more to see.” Greg’s face cracked into that same smile as he floated up to his ship in a twinkling beam of light, zooming off into the night.

No matter what someone looks like or where they come from, all are welcome in Rockland!  Happy April First!
