Ramapo Police Issue Public Service Announcement

Itโ€™s that time of year again.  The high school โ€œSenior Assassinโ€ game. It could last for weeks. This tradition has been in existence for many years. To refresh your memory, the game involves HS seniors attempting to be the Last Senior Standing by โ€˜shootingโ€™ their fellow seniors with water guns. It is an advanced game of hide-and-seek as the students will do their best to be stealthy as they stalk their opponents in hopes of getting the advantage and โ€˜shootingโ€™ their water guns first.

We remind you of this because inevitably, the police will receive calls of suspicious subjects who turn out to be students playing the game. We are not endorsing this game; we merely want to keep the public informed.

For the students and parents, it is important to consider how this may appear to the public. We recommend the following:

โ€ข Do NOT trespass onto other peopleโ€™s property while playing the game. Especially at night!  If you are asked to leave, do so.

โ€ข Use brightly colored water guns that seem readily apparent that they are water guns/toys!

โ€ข Do NOT hide in a dark place carrying anything that can be mistaken for a firearm!  This is a recipe for disaster.  Do NOT wear masks, camouflage, etc.  Think of embracing the water theme and wear floaties, swim goggles, snorkel etc.

โ€ข If you see the police coming, Do NOT run or hide.  Simply show yourselves and explain to the officers what you are doing.  Cooperate if they ask you to stop.

If someone calls the police, it is our responsibility to investigate.

For the residents of Ramapo: As always, if you see someone or something suspicious, say something. Do not confront anyone; call 911. Weโ€™ll check it out for you!
