All in With John Jastremski
By all accounts, it feels like the New York Giants executed the 2025 NFL Draft as well as they could from a process standpoint.
The Giants predicament was pretty simple heading into last Thursday night.
Can they find a way to come away with one of the best players in the draft and also their next young franchise quarterback?
In theory, that’s exactly what they were able to do.
The Giants didn’t over think the 3rd pick in the draft. They snagged Penn State Defensive End Abdul Carter.
Carter looks the part of a guy who should be a double digit sack machine for years to come.
When the Giants franchise has been at their best from a defensive standpoint over the years, it feels a constant has been an elite level pass rush.
The hope is Carter alongside Brian Burns, Dexter Lawrence and perhaps Kayvon Thibodeaux can recapture that defensive magic along the line of scrimmage.
Carter was the easy part of the process for Giants GM Joe Schoen.
According to draft experts, that was a no brainer type of pick.
The tougher part of the equation was how the Giants were going to address adding a young quarterback into the fold.
The Giants did not wait until the 2nd round of the draft to do so.
They traded up back into the first round with the Houston Texans and decided that Ole Miss Quarterback Jaxson Dart would be the pick.
Is Dart a can’t miss quarterback prospect? Not according to his game tape and scouting report coming out of college.
After all, if he was, he wouldn’t have fell to the later part of the first round.
That said, being can’t miss doesn’t always equate to slam dunk when it comes to the most important position on the field.
The Giants to their credit showed conviction and were aggressive in trading up to go and get their guy.
Now it’s time for Brian Daboll to work the same magic that he worked on Josh Allen as the Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator.
The Schoen/Daboll regime has two chances to save their jobs in 2025.
They can sell progress on an improved roster with Russell Wilson at the helm and a much better defense.
Unlikely scenario considering the schedule and the division the Giants play in.
The other scenario for job saving relates to Dart. Can the youngster show signs of being the guy by the time you hit the end of the season?
Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll better hope so.
However when it comes to process, no knocking the process for Big Blue.
Now it’s all about results.
