British Man Sentenced in Rockland After Fleeing Scene of Accident

Thomas Robb, 22, of the United Kingdom, has pled guilty toย  fleeing the scene of an accident, Assault in the Third Degree and Reckless driving following an indictment on March 11, 2025. Robb was sentenced last week after facing damning testimony from the families of those harmed in the incident.ย 

At the time of his sentencing, the District Attorneyโ€™s Office recommended a sentence of two years in state prison. After listening to the victimโ€™s mother and grandmotherโ€™s victim impact statements, including the grandmotherโ€™s plea, โ€œThese children will never have a childhood…put him in jail…I need for this court to make him take full responsibilityโ€, the Court sentenced the defendant to 364 days on each count of the 11-count indictment to run concurrently with each other.

On July 30, 2022, Robb drove in the wrong direction down a one-way street on North Greenbush Road and continued onto Route 303 in Blauvelt, NY in the wrong direction and into oncoming traffic. His vehicle, a BMW SUV was traveling at an excessive speed of between 49 to 60 mph and struck a 2017 Chevrolet Cruz which ricocheted into a 2021 Dodge Charger carrying several individuals, including multiple children. Robb exited his vehicle and immediately fled the scene without displaying a license or any identification. He was apprehended nearby by a police officer from the Town of Orangetown Police Department.

Thomas Robb was charged in the Town of Orangetown Justice Court with Leaving the Scene of an Incident, Assault in the Second Degree and related charges. He was duly arraigned on the charges on July 30, 2022, and initially remanded to the Rockland County Jail on $25,000 bail.

ย That bail was subsequently posted the following day, and he was released. On August 2, 2022, upon information and belief, the defendant utilized his twin brotherโ€™s passport and posing as him boarded a flight from the Baltimore/Thurgood Marshall Airport in Maryland to London and fled the United States.ย 

The defendant was subsequently indicted by the grand jury of Rockland County and an arrest warrant issued. The Office of the District Attorney commenced extradition proceedings in 2023 against the defendant with the assistance from the United States Department of Justice resulting in his extradition back to the United States in January of 2025.

The case was investigated by the Orangetown Police Department. Executive Assistant District Attorney Kristin Tirino and Supervising Assistant District Attorney Meghan Garvey prosecuted the case.
