Vogue Salon Celebrates 25 Years

This past Tuesday, May 13th, Vogue Salon celebrated a quarter of a century delivering the best of beauty in Rockland County. It may have been a gloomy day outside, but the energy inside the salon could only be compared to a freshly poured glass of champagne. Everywhere you looked there were wide smiles, squeezes of joy, and, of course, perfectly coiffed heads of hair.

Right from the get, guests were welcomed into the event with a raffle ticket and the chance to spin a wheel for a whole host of prizes. The prizes ranged from a complimentary blowout, makeup application, bikini treatments and more and guests were thrilled with their wins. Amongst the food and drinks were vendors from all corners of Rockland, including boudoir photography, permanent jewelry, and original clothing. The shampoo bowls were packed with ice and bottles of bubbles, prompting delighted giggles from guests as the DJ spun upbeat tunes.

Owner John Dellolio took a few moments from his big night to speak with the RCT about the last 25 years and the future of his business.ย

First things first: Dellolio is allergic to complacency. โ€œAll Iโ€™ve been doing for 25 years is renovating,โ€ he said, gesturing to the spacious, loft-style salon. โ€œEvery year thereโ€™s something new here.โ€ Delollio sees these investments in the energy and experience of the salon as an investment in longevity. Delollio doesnโ€™t just want guests to come in for a hair cut. He wants them to come in for an experience. โ€œOffering them a fresh baked cookie with a cappuccino [with] our logo or a heart with cinnamon on topโ€ฆ that goes a long way. And thatโ€™s what Iโ€™m trying to create.โ€ Itโ€™s a mindset that has clearly worked well for him.

The experience of the salon begins the moment you open your car door. Music plays from speakers outside of the salon, and post-Covid the salon has doubled in size, adding candles and a luxury scent machine, as well as larger installations such as an espresso machine and wine bar.ย

The Nanuet local credits his ability to continuously grow to the support of the Rockland community, and takes his presence as the owner seriously. The vibe he wants for the salon must start with him, and every interaction with other staff members exemplifies the kind of energy Delollio strives for. He eschews any sense of pretentiousness, wanting everyone to feel comfortable and excited to partake in the sacred rituals of beauty.ย

Delollio has bittersweet visions for the future. As the salon continues to grow, he hopes to step away from the chair and interact with clients more frequently. After 25 years behind the chair, however, it wonโ€™t be easy. โ€œPart of me feels like Iโ€™m not going to be relevant if I do that, but Iโ€™ll just be relevant as the best salon owner instead of the best hairdresser,โ€ he teased. He said it perfectly himself while discussing the hair trends over the last quarter-century โ€œYou just gotta ride the wave.โ€
