On Saturday evening at approximately 11:00 PM, the Haverstraw Police Department responded to a report of a domestic incident involving a firearm. Prior to police arrival, the suspect fled his residence in a vehicle while armed.
Haverstraw Police units located the vehicle traveling on Route 9W in the Village of Haverstraw and attempted a traffic stop. The suspect failed to comply and led officers on a high-speed pursuit that extended across multiple jurisdictions throughout Rockland County.
During the pursuit, the suspect’s vehicle struck multiple police vehicles, resulting in the injury of one officer. The injured officer was treated and released from Nyack Hospital.
The pursuit ultimately concluded in the Town of Clarkstown in the area of Zucker Road and Old Route 304, where the suspect barricaded himself inside the vehicle with the firearm displayed and refused to surrender. A multi-hour standoff followed.
Thanks to the coordinated efforts and professionalism of all agencies involved, the incident was brought to a safe resolution. The suspect eventually surrendered peacefully and turned over the firearm.
