Orangetown Police Rescue Nyack Resident Trapped During House Fire

Officers from the Orangetown Police Department rescued three trapped people from a burning home in Nyack early Sunday morning.

First responders arrived at the scene of a fire on Summit Street at approximately 3:15 a.m. According to the Orangetown Police Department, two officers entered the burning structure and evacuated two tenants from the first floor of the home after hearing their screams for help. A third officer traversed to the second floor, where he located another trapped individual. The officer safely evacuated that person.

One of the victims was taken to Westchester County Medical Center for treatment, and two others were transported to Nyack Hospital. Three Nyack Police officers were taken to Nyack Hospital for treatment. The Nyack Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire. The Nyack FD was assisted by the Central Nyack, Orangeburg, Valley Cottage, Piermont, and West Nyack Fire Departments on Mutual Aid. The Nyack, Nanuet, Congers, and South Orangetown Ambulance Corps, as well as Rockland Paramedics Services, were also on scene.

Representatives from the American Red Cross were notified to assist with displaced residents. Detectives from the Orangetown Police Department Detective Bureau were on scene, as was the Nyack Fire Inspector and Rockland County BCI/Fire Investigations Unit. An investigation to determine the cause is underway.
