DeWint House Receives New Historical Marker

The DeWint House in Tappan, built in 1700, is the oldest standing building in Rockland County. It served as George Washington’s headquarters on four separate occasions during the American Revolutionary War.

During his stays, President Washington inspected nearby forts along the Hudson River, attended the trial of Major John André, negotiated the withdrawal of British soldiers from New York City, and took shelter there during a snowstorm while traveling to and from West Point.

The DeWint House is located at 20 Livingston Avenue in Tappan, NY. The Orangetown Highway Department has given this historical home some much deserved TLC with this new historical marker.
