Orangetown’s August 19th town board and police commission meetings are canceled, with the next meeting being held September 9th.
Come on out on September 5th for the Splashdown in Orangetown, hosted by the Penguin Plunge. This adult’s only night at the splash pad will have a food truck on site with the $10 suggested donation “at the door” benefiting the Penguin Plunge’s mission of helping Rockland parents of children with severe illnesses pay medical costs. The Penguin Plunge helps to relieve financial stress and allows caregivers to focus on their children. The event will take place from 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m., with the projected temperature for the 5th showing a real feel of 75 degrees and humid, so get ready for a refreshing evening. “Put a speedo on and we’re going to charge you triple!,” teased Town Supervisor Teresa Kenny. The Town Board has agreed to accept a $75,000 grant from the New York State and Municipal Facilities Program for the implementation of shade structures at the Veterans Memorial Park in Orangeburg and the Emilio DiFrancesco Park in Sparkill. Adding more shade structures allows for residents to stay cool on sunny days, reducing heat related incidents. It also allows for children to play longer without harming their sensitive skin, making the playgrounds more accessible for everyone and encouraging community members to get outside more frequently.
The town board has accepted the nationwide settlement taking place as a result of the opiate litigation against Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family. Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family are being charged with fraudulent and negligent distribution of opioids. The amount the town will receive will be determined once the settlement of all municipalities involved in the litigation is settled. The town attorney Robert V. Magrino stated he will submit the application to receive the funds by mid-September.
Orangetown will be providing assistance for the South Nyack 10 Miler on September 7th in the form of police detail, barricades, and porto-jons.
