However, there is a more specific definition for ‘Classical Music.’ In this program, we discuss and perform works that demonstrate what makes a ‘Classical’ composition different from other styles of symphonic or chamber music. A truly ‘Classical’ work brings a special joy to both the listener and performer, and this presentation will help to explain what it is in the Classical Style that makes this music so beautiful and timeless.    Register online so that we know how many chairs to set up. All are welcome. Walk-ins are welcome. His quest to forestall catastrophe means facing submerged demons from his Brooklyn past and matching wits with a clever and idiosyncratic NYPD detective. Scott’s tool kit consists of the take-no-prisoners lessons he’s gleaned from an ethics-free approach to business. How far will Scott go to protect everything he’s worked for?

Penguin Rep Theatre

September 12th – October 4th, 2025

During the war, Joe Keller and Steve Deever ran a machine shop which made airplane parts. Deever was sent to prison because the firm turned out defective parts, causing the deaths of many men. Keller went free and made a lot of money. The twin shadows of this catastrophe and the fact that the young Keller son was reported missing during the war dominate the action. The love affair of Chris Keller and Ann Deever, the bitterness of George Deever returned from the war to find his father in prison and his father’s partner free, are all set in a structure of almost unbearable power. The climax showing the reaction of a son to his guilty father is fitting conclusion to a play electrifying in its intensity.

Eden – Suspense

Director Ron Howard’s Eden unravels the shocking true story of a group of disillusioned outsiders who abandon civilization, settling on a remote, uninhabited island only to discover that the greatest threat isn’t the brutal climate or deadly wildlife, but each other. As tensions spiral and desperation takes hold, a twisted power struggle unfolds, leading to betrayal, violence, and the deaths of half the colony.

Honey Don’t! – Comedy

Honey Don’t! is a dark comedy about Honey O’Donahue, a small-town private investigator, who delves into a series of strange deaths tied to a mysterious church.

Streaming Favs

Animal Kingdom – Drama

After a heroin overdose kills his mom, Joshua “J” Cody moves to Southern California to live with his freewheeling relatives. The family’s matriarch is J’s estranged grandmother, Janine “Smurf” Cody, from whom he’s been shielded for years. J soon finds out the reason for the isolation — Smurf and “her boys” make their livings through carefully planned armed robberies and other criminal activities. Prominent perpetrators include Smurf’s three sons: mentally disturbed ex-con Pope, hyperactive drug user Craig, and suspicious Deran. In order to stay alive, J must prove loyal to his beguiling grandmother, who rules with a borderline-incestuous love.

American Rust – Drama

Based on Philipp Meyer’s novel of the same name, “American Rust” explores the tattered American dream through the eyes of a police chief in a Rust Belt town in southwest Pennsylvania. Chief Del Harris becomes compromised when the son of the woman he loves is accused of murder. Complications continue to arise as the investigation proceeds.

The Oath – Drama

This crime drama explores a unique type of criminal gang that is made up of the very men and women who are sworn to uphold the law. Only select police officers make the cut, and the gang members do whatever they can to protect one another from enemies — both inside and outside of their ranks. The series was created by Joe Halpin, who spent 17 years as a deputy in the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Make your late summer a little more historical with a reenactment of events that happened right in our own backyard! All booked up this weekend? Don’t worry, Stony Point Battlefield has plenty of events coming up.

The next even will be Spencer’s Additional Regiment Encampment, taking place on 09/13/2025 from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Raised as an auxiliary force for General Washington’s Continental Army in 1777, Spencer’s Additional Regiment was a part of the New Jersey Brigade throughout the war. The members of this reenactment regiment will take up residence in our Soldiers’ Camp by the museum and explain the unit’s fascinating history, perform drills and fire muskets throughout the day. The unit served at the American garrison at Stony Point in 1780 during the Benedict Arnold treason affair and trial in Tappan, NY.

Beware of Door-to-Door Home Improvement Scams

With warmer weather comes an increase in door-to-door home improvement scams, often carried out by individuals known as “travelers.” These scammers typically offer services like driveway sealing, roofing, paving, or tree work at a “low cost” — but the results are often poor quality, unfinished, or not done at all.

What to Watch Out For:

– Unsolicited offers for home repairs

– Claims of leftover materials from another job

– Requests for cash or full payment upfront

– No written contract, license, or business address

– High-pressure sales tactics

Protect Yourself:

– Say no to uninvited repair offers

– Always check for a license and references

– Get a written contract before any work begins

– Never pay the full amount upfront

– Report suspicious activity to the police immediately

If someone comes to your door offering unexpected home repairs, take a step back and do your research. If it sounds too good to be true — it probably is.

Here is a link to Orangetown web page for information on how to sign up for the do not knock registry.  https://www.orangetown.com/do-not-knock-registry/

Residents can also call the Town Clerk’s office at 359-5100 x5004, or visit the Town Clerk’s office in Town Hall. The registry will prohibit commercial, for-profit solicitors from knocking, not politcal coandidates, charitable groups, or other non-commerical entities.

Stay alert. Stay safe.
