There have been no reported case of measles since 2019 in Rockland, but this week our front-page story has frightened many across the county. Measles travels through the air and is the most contagious disease on earth, but, if vaccinated, doctors say that it is nearly impossible to contract.
So why is measles still happening? 93% of the 1300 cases of measles in 2025 across the nation nearly 93% have occurred in people who were not vaccinated. According to a doctor who spoke with the RCT, parents who are refuse to vaccinate their children are playing with fire when it comes to keeping their children safe.
According to John Hopkins, “When complications do occur, they can include ear infections, pneumonia, and encephalitis or inflammation of the brain that can lead to permanent neurologic damage and even death. On average, measles kills between one and three of every 1,000 infected children.” There is absolutley no reason to be playing around with those kinds of numbers. If you wouldn’t let your child get in a car wihtout a seatbelt, don’t let them go into the world without a measles vaccine.
There is no doubt that since 2020, the public’s has had seeds of mistrust planted against of healthcare has planted seeds of “rage against big pharma” but the failure of listening to science can, and will, prove tragic. If not for you, then for someone else’s child or loved one.
The most loving thing you can do for your neighbor is to get vaccinated. Rockland must to listen to real doctors, now. Get vaccinated.
