In the wee hours of Wednesday morning, the Town of Haverstraw was crawling with police officers, Sheriffs, and K-9 units all hard at work after what was thought to be fireworks was revealed to be a shooting that has left a 22 year old man dead.

According to an anonymous witness, he and his wife were out for a walk a little before 9:00 p.m. when they heard a woman screaming, followed by loud bangs. The couple believed the banging noise was fireworks and the scream had been the result of fear from the loud noise,
As the pair walked on, they witnessed two men dressed entirely in black running through backyards and towards Main Street. The witness stated that one man looked to be around six feet tall, the other slightly shorter, and that one of the men had “frizzy hair” that pushed up the hood of his black sweatshirt.
After returning home and checking Facebook they quickly realized that what they had thought were fireworks were actually gunshots.
The witness shared that he has been a resident of Haverstraw for forty years, and is saddened by what he has seen as a change in the culture of the neighborhood. “It was always a quiet neighborhood, you didn’t have to worry about things like this. At one point you could even leave your doors open. It’s getting scary nowadays.”
The shooting comes 14 months after a fatal shooting that took place only a few blocks away.
