Alfred Hitchcock is probably the most famous film director who ever lived. For five decades, first in England, then in Hollywood, he made fifty-four films, including classics such as The Thirty- Nine Steps, Rebecca, Notorious, Rear Window, North by Northwest, Vertigo, and Psycho. Few filmmakers have been as popular, critically celebrated, and as influential, not only as a director but also as a multi-media showman through his TV series, magazines, book anthologies, even extending to board games and record albums. This presentation looks at his achievements as “the master of suspense,” and through dozens of film clips, examines his extraordinary creativity as one of the 20th century’s greatest filmmakers.

All My Sons
Elmwood Playhouse
Nyack
Running NOW – October 4th, 2025
During the war, Joe Keller and Steve Deever ran a machine shop which made airplane parts. Deever was sent to prison because the firm turned out defective parts, causing the deaths of many men. Keller went free and made a lot of money. The twin shadows of this catastrophe and the fact that the young Keller son was reported missing during the war dominate the action. The love affair of Chris Keller and Ann Deever, the bitterness of George Deever returned from the war to find his father in prison and his father’s partner free, are all set in a structure of almost unbearable power. The climax showing the reaction of a son to his guilty father is fitting conclusion to a play electrifying in its intensity.

Free Fishing Day!
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) today announced Sept. 27 will mark the next Free Fishing Day in New York State.
“The September 27th free fishing day is particularly special because it coincides with National Hunting and Fishing Day, a celebration of the incredible angling opportunities our state provides,” said DEC Commissioner Amanda Lefton. “Free fishing days are the perfect time for newcomers to learn to freshwater fish or for experienced anglers to bring others outdoors to enjoy the many abundant waterways across New York.”
This annual Free Fishing Day coincides with National Hunting and Fishing Day, which was designated by Congress in 1972. The day helps encourage people to experience, understand, and appreciate traditional outdoor sports and recreation and abundant natural resources, while also recognizing hunters and anglers for their leadership in fish and wildlife conservation.
Free Fishing Days further support Governor Hochul’s “Get Offline, Get Outside” initiative that promotes physical and mental health by helping encourage New York’s children and families to put down their phones and computers, take a break from social media, and enjoy recreation and outdoor social gatherings.
In addition to designated free freshwater fishing days, DEC and its partners also hold free fishing clinics throughout the year. Participants learn about local fishing opportunities and are taught about the fish they can catch, fishing safety, how to cast a fishing rod, aquatic resource stewardship, and New York’s fishing regulations. A full list of programs is available on DEC’s website. Check the list regularly as new events are added throughout the year.
No rod? No problem. DEC partners with libraries across the state to provide a fishing rod lending program. Along with borrowing a book, library patrons can sign out a fishing rod. This affordable program provides an opportunity for people to try fishing before deciding to purchase their own gear. For more information on the program and a list of participating libraries visit DEC’S website.
For beginning anglers interested in getting started, the I FISH NY Beginners’ Guide to Freshwater Fishing provides information on everything from rigging up a fishing rod to identifying your catch and understanding fishing regulations. DEC’s Places to Fish webpages are a reliable source of information for those ready to plan their next fishing trip. The “Tackle Box” feature in DEC’s official app, HuntFishNY, contains freshwater fishing regulations, boating access and stocking information within a map-based interface from the convenience of a smart phone. Other features include driving directions to state-operated boat launch sites and an offline feature that allows users to access information when cell coverage isn’t available. The HuntFishNY app is available for download through Google Play or the App store. For more information visit DEC’s website.
The final free fishing day for 2025 will take place on Veterans Day, November 11. On Free Fishing Days, New York residents and non-residents alike may fish for free without a fishing license. Free Fishing Day participants are reminded that, although the requirement for a fishing license is waived during free fishing days, all other fishing regulations remain in effect. When not participating in Free Fishing Days, anyone 16 years of age and older must have a current New York State fishing license to fish. Fishing licenses are valid for 365 days from the date of purchase. More information on purchasing a fishing license can be found on DEC’s website.
The New York State Department of Health (DOH) provides advice to anglers about what fish are safe to eat and how often at health.ny.gov/environmental/outdoors/fish/health_advisories/additional_information.htm.
Learn How to Keep Kids Safe Joan’s Child Safety Fest

Author and child safety advocate Rosemarie D’Alessandro spoke at the Tappan Library last week She spoke about her book “The Message of Light Amid Letters of Darkness” which is about her experiences after the tragic murder of her 7-year-old daughter Joan at the hands of a neighbor who was a teacher at Tappan Zee High School. Some of his former students attended the talk and they shared alarming experiences they had with Joan’s killer before he committed the murder they also spoke about the lack of support they received after the crime.
Rosemarie started a movement to keep the killer in prison that to the passage of 5 laws. The book also includes 332 real letters the killer wrote to a pen pal over 33 years. Rosemarie comments on them and tells the parallel story of her life during the time period. It’s a book that shows that change led by one person can lead to victory over injustice and change in society. It’s the real story of what hope looks like.
On Saturday September 27th from 2:00 p.m – 5:00 p.m. the Joan’s Joy Foundation will host its 11th Joan’s Child Safety Fest at the Joan D’Alessasndro White Butterfly sculpture at the Hillsdale train station. K9 Named After The Man in the Red Bandana

Students at Willow Grove Elementary School had a special visitor today when K9 Remy, the first Certified Electronics Detection Dog in Rockland County, stopped by with her handler, Detective Tim Hayes, of the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office Investigative Unit.
K9 Remy is specifically trained to detect the unique chemical compounds found in electronic devices. This allows her to locate hidden items such as laptops, cell phones, SD cards, and USB drives, to name a few. These tools are often used by investigators and cases involving child exploitation, possession of explicit material, and other crimes where critical digital evidence may be concealed.
Detective Hayes led a demonstration showing students how K9 Remy, one of a few hundred electronic detection dogs in the United States, uses her powerful sense of smell to find these devices when they are deliberately hidden from view.
“K9 Remy’s visit gave children a chance to learn about teamwork, community safety, and the important role law-enforcement K9s have in the community,” said Rockland County District Attorney’s Office Chief of Detectives Deirdre Smith.
Named in honor of Rockland County native, Welles Remy Crowther, “The Man in the Red Bandana,” who is remembered as a hero for saving lives during the September 11th attacks, Remy stands both as a symbol of courage and vital resource in the pursuit of justice.
“We are proud to have K9 Remy as part of our team,” said District Attorney Tom Walsh. “Her work helps ensure that those who commit crimes against children are held accountable.”

Secret Service Dismantles Telecommunications Threat

The U.S. Secret Service dismantled a network of electronic devices located throughout the New York tristate area that were used to conduct multiple telecommunications-related threats directed towards senior U.S. government officials, which represented an imminent threat to the agency’s protective operations.
This protective intelligence investigation led to the discovery of more than 300 co-located SIM servers and 100,000 SIM cards across multiple sites.
In addition to carrying out anonymous telephonic threats, these devices could be used to conduct a wide range of telecommunications attacks. This includes disabling cell phone towers, enabling denial of services attacks and facilitating anonymous, encrypted communication between potential threat actors and criminal enterprises.
While forensic examination of these devices is ongoing, early analysis indicates cellular communications between nation-state threat actors and individuals that are known to federal law enforcement.
“The potential for disruption to our country’s telecommunications posed by this network of devices cannot be overstated,” said U.S. Secret Service Director Sean Curran. “The U.S. Secret Service’s protective mission is all about prevention, and this investigation makes it clear to potential bad actors that imminent threats to our protectees will be immediately investigated, tracked down and dismantled.”
These devices were concentrated within 35 miles of the global meeting of the United Nations General Assembly now underway in New York City. Given the timing, location and potential for significant disruption to New York telecommunications posed by these devices, the agency moved quickly to disrupt this network.
The U.S. Secret Service’s Advanced Threat Interdiction Unit, a new section of the agency dedicated to disrupting the most significant and imminent threats to our protectees, is conducting this investigation. This investigation is currently ongoing.
The Department of Homeland Security’s Homeland Security Investigations, the Department of Justice, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the NYPD, as well as other state and local law enforcement partners, provided valuable technical advice and assistance in support of this investigation.
This is an ongoing investigation.
