Blue Hill Goes Purple!

Promenade at Blue Hill, an assisted living and memory care residence in Pearl Rive is going Purple for Alzheimer’s Awarness during the month of October.

“We are hoping the beautiful and unusual display catches the eye of passers by and stirs an important conversation,” explained Christine Berkner, Executive Director of the community. “Alzheimer’s disease and other cognitive impairments impact so many people, not only in our facility but also in our local community.” In fact, at last spring’s Rockland County Alzheimer’s Community Conversation held at the Office for the Aging, community members requested more supportive services for those with memory needs and their caregivers in the Pearl River area of the county. Promenade at Blue Hill is answering the call for more support.

In September, they initiated a free, interactive program of movement, music and memory called “Forever Young” which was open to the public. The next Forever Young event is slated for Oct 28th at 11am. Janice Rhodes, Memory Care Coordinator for the facility, is working with the Alzheimer’s Association to host a regular support group at Blue Hill to be initiated soon. In addition, Promenade Senior Living is a sponsor of this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s at Clover Stadium on Oct 19. “Working with seniors who have dementia requires a special person who is understanding and empathetic,” Rhodes shared. “We are a family to all of our residents here, they see us everyday. We strive to make every day a comfortable, happy and engaging day for them. Our relationships with each senior and the quality of care that we deliver are what make us stand out.”
