Will a Parietti and Day debate see the light of day?
Mike Parietti, Independent Candidate set to run against previously unchallenged incumbent Ed Day, is alleging Day has refused multiple invitations to debate him. According to Day, these accusations are unfounded.
According to The League of Women Voters of Rockland County, the League invited both candidates to a public debate on October 19. Day declined, as he was unable to attend on that date due to a family engagement. The League offered three alternative dates. Parietti agreed to all of them. Day stated to the RCT that none of the dates provided by the League aligned with his schedule, despite scheduling efforts from his campaign to find a date.
The League has since canceled their debate.
Day stated that the accusations from Parietti that he is hiding from a debate are false. Day confirmed that he has attended every debate he has been invited to by the League of Women Voters since 2005, excluding the debate he missed following his mother’s passing.
The New City Jewish Center invited both candidates to appear at its annual community forum on the same date of October 19th. Again, Parietti accepted and Day declined due to previously mentioned engagements.
“When an elected official hides from debate, it’s not just a scheduling issue, it’s a serious warning sign,” Parietti said.
In a conversation with the RCT, Day stated that Parrietti’s statement and press release were “…a childish exercise that is factually incorrect.” Day and Perretti will both be at a candidate forum on Wednesday, October 29th at the Haverstraw Elks Lodge No. 877, as they attend the Rockland Shields monthly meeting.
Early voting begins on October 25th.
