Day Trounces Parietti, Piermont Mayoral Race Neck-and-Neck

These results are preliminary and are based on the information available at time of publication,. These are are not official results. Several hundred absentee ballots are outstanding after being postmarked by Election Day or dropped off at the polls. We are not including uncontested races. 

County Executive

Incumbent Ed Day was re-elected for his fourth term with 73.97% of the vote, beating out Parietti with over 20,000 votes. 

Legislative District 13 Representative

Cross-Endorsed Candidate Moshe Hopstein was elected with a whopping 86.41% of the vote.

Supervisor Clarkstown 

In an Election Day surprise, George Hoehmann was narrowly re-elected with 10,820 votes, or 57.13% of the vote, beating out Democrat Eugene Bonder by  only 2,721 votes. 

Town Council Clarkstown Ward 1

In another close race, Jon P. Valentino bested Mark B. Licker by 1.13% of the vote, or a mere 57 votes. 

Town Council Clarkstown Ward 2

Ward 2 was a close cousin of Ward 1, with Mike Graziano taking the lead over Gregory Sheehan by only 6.61% of the vote, or 356 votes.  

Town Council Clarkstown Ward 3

Cross-Endorsed Candidate Donald Franchino will be representing Ward 3, winning with 55.77% of the vote over Democrat Daniel P. Maher who held 44.11% of the vote. With only 386 votes between the two, it was another close race for Clarkstown. 

Town Council Clarkstown Ward 4

Cross-Endorsed Candidate Bob Axelrod won with 54.21% of the vote, or 2,755 votes. This was 429 votes more than Democrat Gina Defelice. 

Town Council Orangetown

Two members were selected for the Town Council, with Brian M. Donohue and Daniel W. Sullivan taking 36.15% of the vote and 35.96% of the vote, respectively and Tiffany M. Sturdivant-Morrison coming in with 27.26% of the vote. 

Town Clerk Clarkstown

Cross-Endorsed Candidate Lauren M. Wohl will be continuing in her role of Town Clerk with 55.93% of the vote, beating outthe 44.01% received by David R. Bruen.

Village Mayor Village of Piermont

The Piermont Mayoral race was certainly a race to watch, with Democrat Nathan S. Mitchell   passing contender Kevin Timoney with only 2.4% of the vote. The election was decided by 22 votes. 

Village Mayor Village of Spring Valley

In a landslide vote, Democrat Schenley Vital was elected with 81.44% of the vote over Republican Aaron Stern. 

Village Trustee Village of Spring Valley

Joseph Gross has received the majority of the votes with 42.22% of the vote, with nonpartisan option receiving 30.95% of the vote, and Sherry McGill receiving 26.83% of the vote. Two Trustees will be voted in, but at this time there is not enough information to make a statement either way.  

Village Trustee Village of West Haverstraw

The two Cross-Endorsed Candidates Peter R. Eckert and Robert J. Lagrow will both be serving as the Village Trustees in the Village of West Haverstraw. The two received 33.70% and 31.97% of the vote, respectively. 

Supreme Court Justice 9th Judicial District

The four Supreme Court Justice for the 9th Judicial District will be Verris B. Shako with 14.38% of the vote, Diane M. Clerkin with 15.16% of the vote, John P. Collins Jr. with 14.84% of the vote, and Desmond C. Lyons with 13.12% of the vote. 

Village Justice Village of Spring Valley

Patricia Brimais-Tenemille won the race for Village Justive with 88.32% of the vote over Republican contender Mike Koplen. 

Proposition Number One, An Amendment

Prop One, an Amendment, received 23,747 “Yes” votes, or 54.41% of the vote. This yes vote amends the State Constitution, and will allow skiing and other related trail facilities on Adirondack forest preserve land. The yes vote will also require the State to add 2,500 acres of new forest land in Adirondack Park.

The New York Legislature must now approve this offset of 2,500 acres or the project will not move forward.
