The Best Sporting Event of the Decade? You Bet

“Game 7” are truly the best two words in all of sports.

You can expect the unexpected. It is the best reality TV show you can find anywhere.

Saturday’s Game 7 experience between the Dodgers and the Blue Jays took the normal excitement for a winner-take-all to an entirely different level.

It’s very easy to be dramatic in the moment. Trust me, it’s the 2025 world we live in.

That said, I have thought about it. It’s a couple of days after the fact, and I can now confirm that Game 7 of the World Series was the best sporting event I have watched this decade.

Yes, I am aware of how significant those words may be.

We watched LeBron James and the Cavaliers end an epic title drought in a Game 7 over a record setting 73 win Golden State Warriors team.

Yes, I remember a Super Bowl overtime with a walk off Patrick Mahomes touchdown.

Yes, I remember another epic title drought being snapped in a Game 7. The Cubs victory over the Cleveland Indians had incredible historic significance and the stakes of the game were off the rails.

So – why was this Game 7 between the Dodgers and the Blue Jays the one to take the cake?

It was a game that truly had it ALL.

We can start with the non-stop action and drama that you had from the first pitch on.

Blue Jays’ 2B Bo Bichette HR against Othani with a whole lot of defensive gems set the stage for a one run lead heading to the 9th inning.

From that point forward all hell broke loose.

Light hitting shortstop Miguel Rojas hitting a homer to tie the game in the 9th inning. The sort of homer that will keep your bar tab clear in Los Angeles for the rest of your life.

The Blue Jays had multiple chances to win the game in the 9th and the 10th inning.

Imagine losing out on the World Series because of a couple of inches on a bang-bang play at the plate.

Or how about the near collision between Dodgers outfielders that almost led to a championship?

There were so many “what if’s” that will undoubtedly cause Blue Jays fans to question their sanity for years to come.

It’s also easy for the entire Blue Jays fan-base to forever be haunted by Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

Yamamoto put together one of the most heroic and impressive pitching performances in the history of the World Series.

He won 3 games including the winner-take-all Game 7, working out of multiple jams after starting Game 6 the night before.

The star power, the twists and turns, the way the game and the series was so incredibly well played.

I can’t imagine a better Game 7. Can you?
