Richard David McGowan, 1931-2025

Richard David McGowan, age 94, passed away on October 13, 2025, at the Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, Minnesota. He was born August 27, 1931, the son of Thomas J. and Janet Meester McGowan of Haverstraw, New York, the community where he grew up. After serving in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean conflict, Richard graduated from Seton Hall University in 1959, with a B.S. degree in Accounting. He began his career with the Phelps Dodge Corporation in New York City. In 1965, he accepted a position with the Sperry Corporation in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania. In 1969, he transferred to their St. Paul, Minnesota office and became Manager of their Internal Audit Department. He then went on to become the Western Regional Director of Internal Auditing until his retirement in 1995. Richard is survived by his wife of 70 years, the former Marie Petrichko. They were married in St. Mary’s Church in Haverstraw on September 3, 1955. He is also survived by his son, David McGowan of Woodbury, Minnesota, two grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Richard was predeceased by his sister, Mary McGowan, and brothers Thomas, John (Jack), and Frank. Internment took place in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Haverstraw, NY.
