Happy 78th Birthday, Marsha!

“CHEERS!” to longtime Orangeburg resident, Marsha Kumitz, born the first week of January 1948. Marsha loves animals, but especially her cat Midnight. Marsha is a retired school teacher, was born in Brooklyn and moved to Orangeburg in 1959.

Below are some fun facts about Marsha’s birth year – 

The popular orange snack Cheetos were first introduced in 1948, along with Mentos, Nesquik, the Polaroid camera, Reddi-Wip, Ruffles potato chips, and Tupperware.

Marsha shares her birth year with  Bernadette Peters, Billy Crystal, Donna Summer, Olivia Newton-John, and Rhea Perlman. 

In 1948, eggs cost 79 cents a dozen, milk was 34 cents a gallon, a bottle of Coca-Cola was 5 cents and so was a daily newspaper.
