For the third year in a row, Senator Bill Weber hosted a district-wide coat drive, and this year’s effort was nothing short of extraordinary. The need for warm winter clothing has never been greater. Once again, Rockland residents rose to the occasion in an inspiring show of generosity.
Collection bins were placed at 21 locations throughout the 38th Senate District, including town halls and public libraries. The response was overwhelming, with bins consistently filled to capacity and regularly emptied by Senator Weber’s staff to accommodate additional donations.
In total, an incredible 8,122 pounds of coats, gloves, hats, scarves, and even shoes were collected.
Durso Trucking generously donated their time and equipment to help load, transport, and unload the donations at the Street Community Center, where a large-scale sorting event was held. Volunteers from Oxford House, WestCOP, Helping Hands, Rockland BOCES, along with local elected officials and high school students, joined Senator Weber and his staff to sort through the extraordinary volume of winter wear.
Following the sorting effort, Senator Weber distributed the donations to several major Rockland County organizations, including Konbit Neg Lakay, United Way of Rockland, People to People, Kupas Ezra, and others, ensuring the items reached those most in need.
Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of the Rockland community and Senator Weber’s continued commitment to serving his neighbors, no Rocklander will go without warmth this winter.
“The generosity of the Rockland citizenry never ceases to amaze me,” said Senator Bill Weber. “This effort goes beyond collecting coats—it’s about dignity, compassion, and helping our most vulnerable neighbors stay warm during the winter months.”
