Finegan’s Lager Beer Ale
Haverstraw, N.Y.
Circa 1910
Rockland Remembers is a weekly column prepared by Clare Sheridan of the Historical Society of Rockland County, intended to showcase the rich history of our county.Â
This photo, taken in 1910, shows Jim Finegan with his brewmaster in a one-horse open sleigh. The brewery, owned by Thomas Finegan, was on West Broad Street in Haverstraw. Image from the John Scott Collection of the HSRC.
Historian John Scott (1916-2005) was known for shooting photos of historic homes and other sites. His easy-going manner convinced many to open their private family albums so Scott could make copies of photos of historical personalities and places. Scott built a collection of about 8,000 photos and slides that he donated to the Historical Society of Rockland County in 2003.
