On January 29, 2026, at approximately 8:35 a.m., the Ramapo Police Department Emergency Communications Center received notification from Hatzoloh EMS of Rockland regarding a child who had been struck by a vehicle on Ostilla Avenue in the Village of New Square.Â
Ramapo officers were immediately dispatched to the location. EMS personnel departed the scene prior to officers’ arrival. A Ramapo Police officer responded to the Westchester County Medical Center, where the child was being transported.Â
At approximately 12:15 p.m., the Ramapo Police Department was notified that the victim, a five-year-old resident of the Village of New Square, succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.Â
The Ramapo Police Crash Investigation Unit has been activated and is currently on scene conducting a comprehensive investigation. Preliminary information indicates the child was struck and run over by a school bus.Â
Crash investigations of this nature are extensive and methodical. They involve coordination with partner agencies, interviews, scene measurements, data analysis, and vehicle inspections. This process requires time to comply with legal process and to ensure all facts are thoroughly and accurately determined.Â
