The Rockland County Legislature has released these statements on the passing of Reverend Jesse Jackson Sr., a politician, minister, and a civil rights activist widely considered to be a protégé of Martin Luther King Jr. and James Bevel. Reverend Jesse Jackson passed at the age of 84 on February 17th, 2026.
“Reverend Jackson devoted his life to expanding opportunity, amplifying the voices of the marginalized, and challenging our nation to live up to its highest ideals.
“‘His leadership and advocacy inspired generations to engage in public service and work toward a more just and inclusive society,’” Rockland County Legislator Toney L. Earl said.
“Reverend Jackson’s legacy is measured not only by the movements he led, but by the countless lives he touched through his unwavering commitment to dignity, fairness, and justice for all. His courage, faith, and determination helped shape a more inclusive America.
“We extend our deepest condolences to his family, loved ones, and all who were inspired by his leadership.
“May we honor his memory by continuing the work of building a society rooted in equality, compassion, and respect,’” Rockland County Legislator Dr. Dana G. Stilley said.
