A favorite annual event of the Senior Activity Center members is set, and Seniors are ready to report for duty. The 2026 Senior Boot Camp will take place on Thursday, March 26th, from 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM, at the Dominican University Hennessy Center in Blauvelt, NY. MOW anticipates welcoming over 150 Meals on Wheels members from the five senior centers across Rockland County: Clarkstown-Pearl River, Haverstraw, Nyack, Orangetown and Ramapo.
The morning will kick-off with the Rockland County Marine Corps who will do The Presentation of Colors and play the National Anthem. Speakers include Rockland County Executive, Ed Day, and Rockland County Office for the Aging Director Cheryl Ward. Senior recruits will then enjoy competing in a variety of games and activities from Axe Throwing to Granny Pants. There will be 40 vendors attending the event for Seniors to engage with and browse services. The event concludes with lunch and dancing to a lively DJ.
This year’s event will keep in the Spirit of ’76 as we celebrate America’s 250th year. Kevin Hardy, President and CEO of MOW Rockland, shards “While our Senior Activity Center members always look forward to Boot Camp, when we told them this year the theme is America’s 250th, they were thrilled. This generation is so patriotic and enjoys celebrating America, they can’t wait for March 26th!” Senior participants will all be wearing a vibrant red patriotic t-shirt to commemorate the event, courtesy of t-shirt sponsor Jessica Kiely of PC Estate Planning & Elder Law.
With MOW’s partners at Dominican University, our Seniors will have fun participating in different challenges alongside university students and student athletes. Intergenerational engagement plays a crucial role in fostering a sense of community and helping to combat isolation and loneliness among older adults. Meals on Wheels Senior Activity Centers is a program supported in part by the Rockland County Office for the Aging, the New York State Office for the Aging, the Administration on Aging and the County of Rockland.
