On March 29, 2026, the Ramapo Police Department responded to a report of a possible interrupted burglary on West Carlton Road in the Town of Ramapo. In this case, a male with his face covered entered a home occupied by a young woman. A physical struggle occurred, and the victim was able to safely escape and call 911 from a nearby residence.

Throughout the day, detectives worked diligently to gather evidence, review available data, and conduct interviews. As a result of those efforts, a suspect was taken into custody and charged with Burglary in the Second Degree and Assault in the Third Degree.

Because the suspect is a juvenile, no further information has been released at this time.

The Ramapo PD has stated that there is no ongoing threat to the community related to this incident. The Ramapo PD understands that incidents of this nature can be unsettling to residents, and wants the public to know that this matter was taken very seriously from the start. They are grateful for the swift response of the officers and detectives whose work helped bring this case to a quick and safe resolution.

At the chief’s direction, additional patrol units have been deployed to the area for high-visibility patrol to provide reassurance and maintain a strong presence, especially as we approach a major holiday.
