Fatal House Fire in New City

At approximately 9:05 a.m. on Sunday, March 29, 2026, the Clarkstown Police Department responded to a report of a structure fire at 71 Carolina Drive in New City. Initial information indicated that a resident might still have been inside the home at the time of the incident.

Upon arrival, responding officers observed a single-family residence heavily involved in fire. The New City Fire Engine Company responded to the scene, along with multiple volunteer fire departments from across Rockland County providing mutual aid.  

Firefighters encountered intense fire conditions and partial structural collapse while operating at the scene. The fire was subsequently brought under control by responding fire crews. 

Following extinguishment of the fire, an adult female victim was discovered deceased inside the residence. The Clarkstown Police Department extends its deepest condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones during this difficult time. 

The Clarkstown Police Department Detective Bureau is actively investigating the incident.
