A Fans Guide To Boos

I feel a NY sports fan intervention is needed.

Look, I understand every paid fan technically has the right to boo or cheer whenever they want.

However, we are New Yorkers. We are supposed to be the best sports fans that this country has to offer.

I’m sorry, but we have to be better.

That’s right, I am calling out a chunk of Mets fans this past weekend who foolishly booed Bo Bichette after just 3 games.

Bichette has barely had a cup of coffee in a Mets uniform, yet he’s hearing the boo-birds.

Come on.

Mets fans are not alone in this premature booing of new players.

I was at the Yankees Home Opener back in 2018.

Giancarlo Stanton was fresh off a debut in Toronto where he homered twice. Good start, figure he would earn some good will, right?

Think again. Stanton went 0-5 with 5 strikeouts and was loudly booed by Yankees fans, despite the fact the Yankees won the game going away.

Now, let’s make something clear.

There are plenty of situations where it’s totally fair to boo your own players.

Devin Williams on line one for the 2025 Yankees?

Or how about Ryan Helsley on line two for the 2025 Mets?

I am not suggesting that boos of current home team players are forever out of bounds, but I need a level of civility.

Can a guy struggle for a month? Or how about yuck up multiple games before it becomes the first thing we do.

This past weekend pushed me to a point of no return.

There are simply too many bad examples of recent NY sports boo-birds that require this intervention.

The next time you go to a game, let’s think and reflect a little, before we boo.

Let’s boo smarter NY sports fans!
