Ramapo Catskill Library System Honored as 2026 Community Champion
Community Foundation of Orange, Sullivan & Rockland recognizes regional library system for strengthening communities through access, collaboration, and in- novation.
The Ramapo Catskill Library System (RCLS) has been named a 2026 Community Cham- pion Award Recipient by the Community Foundation of Orange, Sullivan & Rockland as part of its Rockland Edition Signature Award Reception.
Founded in 1959 by 25 public libraries, RCLS now supports 46 member libraries serving 94 communities, with a service footprint reaching more than 850,000 residents across Or- ange, Rockland, Sullivan, and south- ern Ulster counties.
Through shared services, a cooperative catalog of more than 2.4 million items, and a delivery system that moves more than 1.7 million materials annually, RCLS helps ensure access, efficiency, and meaningful cost savings for local taxpayers.
Under the leader- ship of Executive Director Grace Riario, RCLS continues to strengthen public libraries as essential hubs of learning, connection, and opportunity. Her lifelong connection to libraries, which began as a teenager relying on them as a vital resource, reflects the heart of the organization’s mission and community impact. “This recognition reflects the power of collaboration across member libraries and the communities they serve,” said Riario. “Together, we continue to expand access, foster innovation, and en- sure libraries remain welcoming spaces for education, connection, and opportunity.”
RCLS was recognized for empowering libraries to meet the evolving needs of their communities through innovative services, strategic partnerships, and shared resources that maximize local impact.
The award was presented on March 26, 2026, during the Community Foundation’s Signature Award Reception at the Crowne Plaza in Suffern, NY. Grace Riario accepted the honor on behalf of the Ramapo Catskill Library System and the 46 member libraries that make up the system.

Art Exhibition Day & Poster Contest Winner
Brought by Center for Safety & Change Announces Center for Safety & Change
Center for Safety & Change is proud to announce its Art Exhibition Day and Poster Contest Winner Announcement, hosted by Perry Lawson Fine Art, celebrating the powerful voices of youth artists committed to ending violence against women and girls.
The event will take place on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at 90 N. Broadway in Nyack, NY, and will feature a gallery-style viewing of submissions from the organization’s 16th Annual Art Poster Competition. Community members, local leaders, educators, and media are invited to attend this inspiring evening of art, advocacy, and recognition.
The annual competition, open to Rockland County high school students and residents ages 14–18, encourages young people to engage with the critical issue of gender-based violence through creative expression. This year’s theme, “Ending Violence Against Women & Girls,” challenges participants to raise awareness and promote social change through visual storytelling.
“This exhibition is more than an art show—it is a platform for youth voices, a call to action, and a reflection of the urgency to address violence in our communities,” said Emily Almenas, Creative Arts Therapist, MA, LCAT, ATR-BC at Center for Safety & Change.
“Through their creativity, these young artists are helping to shift culture, inspire dialogue, and advocate for a safer future.”
The evening will culminate in the announcement of the competition winners, including:
Grand Prize Winner
($500)
Three Honorable Mentions
($100 each)
Additionally, the grand prize winner will designate a school, club, or organization to receive a $200 award in their honor.
Artwork on display will highlight the emotional depth, originality, and courage of youth con- fronting issues such as domestic violence, gender inequality, and abuse—is- sues that remain deeply prevalent. Research shows that 1 in 3 high school students report experiencing some form of intimate partner violence, underscoring the importance of awareness and prevention efforts led by young people themselves.
Community Walk
Looking for some people to enjoy the beautiful weather with as the weath- er warms up? Bring your dogs to Bark’n Brews first ever Community Walk!
The walk will take place on Sat- urday, April 25th at 10:00 a.m. starting at the Rail Trail cafe for a quick coffee stop. Rail Trail Cafe, 543 Western Highway S. Blauvelt, NY, 10913.
All are welcome! Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring water and doggie bags.

5K to Farm (and Back!) in Chestnut Ridge to Support Neurodiverse Learners
On Saturday, May 9, families from across New York and New Jersey will gather at the Threefold campus in Chestnut Ridge for the annual Otto Specht School 5K Run/Walk, the school’s largest community fundraising event of the year.
The event brings together students, families, educators, and elected officials to support Otto Specht School, which provides a nature-based therapeutic education program for neurodiverse learners.
The race welcomes participants of all ages and abilities and celebrates the power of community to support inclusive education. Otto Specht School serves students who often struggle in traditional educational environments – many of whom are Autistic, or have learning, behavioral, and/or developmental disabilities -by offering individualized academic instruction alongside therapeutic support.
Many families travel significant distances so their children can access the school’s unique approach. Participants will run or walk a scenic course through the Threefold
campus, with students and families cheering along the route. There will also be a joyful post-race celebration with music, food, and activities. Proceeds from the event support Otto Specht School’s tuition assistance program to ensure that all students in need have access to this exceptional education.
This event will take place Saturday, May 9th at Threefold Campus, Chesnut Ridge, NY at 10:00 a.m., with warm ups at 9:00 a.m. For more information or to register, visit:
