Seven Months After Fatal Shooting, Two Ramapo Residents Arrested

On Saturday, September 20, 2025, at approximately 5:12 PM, the Spring  Valley Police Department responded to a report of shots fired in the area of  2 Dutch Lane.  

Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive 20-year-old male victim  suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Officers immediately initiated  CPR until emergency medical services (EMS) arrived on the scene.  

The victim was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he was  later pronounced deceased.  

On April 16, 2026, following an intensive investigation, the Spring Valley Police Department arrested 21-year-old Ramapo resident Doodly Metellus and 20-year-old Spring Valley resident Smay Dornaison.  

During the apprehension of Mr. Metellus, officers recovered a loaded  firearm in his possession.  

Mr. Metellus has been charged with Murder in the Second Degree, a Class A felony, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a Class C felony. Mr. Dornaison has been charged with Murder in the  Second Degree, a Class A felony.  

Both defendants were arraigned in the Village of Spring Valley Justice Court before the Honorable Judge Mellion and were remanded to the  Rockland County Jail.  

The Spring Valley Police Department would like to thank the FBI New York–Westchester Safe Streets Task Force, the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office, the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of 

Criminal Investigation, the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office Intelligence Unit, the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit, the Ramapo Police Department, and the MTA Police K-9 Unit for their assistance in this  investigation.  

A Criminal Complaint is merely an accusation; the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
