State Senate funding brings ventilation, air conditioning, accessibility to Kirkbride Hall Gym
NYS Senator Pete Harckham announced today that renovations have been completed to the Kirkbride Hall gymnasium, the Town of Stony Point’s recreational hub, with assistance from State grant funding he secured. The renovation project included installation of a comprehensive HVAC system in the gym, as well as necessary improvements to the gym’s parking lot and entranceway to enhance safety and accessibility for residents and visitors.
“Residents deserve safe and accessible recreation facility with up-to-date conveniences, so they can relax, exercise and socialize,” said Harckham. “At the Kirkbride Hall gymnasium, a vital and much-loved destination for Stony Point residents, this state funding helped advance necessary improvements to an aging building and also lessened the tax burden. I will continue to help support our municipalities as they can refurbish and modernize their recreational spaces to benefit residents both in the short- and long-term.”
“This major investment from New York State, championed by Senator Harckham, is a major win for Stony Point,” said Stony Point Supervisor Amy Stamm. “By updating the HVAC system in Kirkbride Hall, we are not just fixing a building; we are expanding opportunities for our residents to use the facilities in a comfortable environment. This project preserves a piece of our town’s history while ensuring it serves the current needs of our recreational programs.”
The State grant funding Harckham secured for the Town of Stony Point, which was provided through the state’s Community Resiliency, Economic Sustainability and Technology (CREST) program, totaled $154,969 and was broken down into two separate grants—the first for $100,000 to replace the HVAC system and the second for the parking lot and entranceway work. The project as a whole cost about $280,000.
Kirkbride Hall gymnasium hosts year-round activities for various local basketball teams, including practices, tournaments and games. For several years, the gym lacked a ventilation and air conditioning system (HVAC), limiting its use during days when temperatures dropped too low or were too high. The new HVAC system will enable the gym to be used in all seasons, providing a climate-controlled environment for sports teams, youth programs and other recreational activities. By making Kirkbride hall a year-round facility, the Town of Stony Point will be able to increase access to recreational opportunities and foster a healthier, more active community.
Other elements of the Kirkbride hall renovations included parking lot paving, a newly defined parking lot perimeter and replacement of the exterior doorway to make it more accessible.
CREST grants provide targeted funding to municipalities and community institutions for projects that enhance infrastructure, improve energy efficiency, and strengthen essential services. By supporting cost-saving upgrades, the program helps reduce financial burdens on local governments and taxpayers.
