New City McDonald’s Demolition Begins

The McDonald’s in new City had begun to be demolished, and will be closed for six months.

The currently 4,570 +/- square foot building with 46 seats will be rebuilt into a 4,455 square foot building with 61 seats. The new building would be moved slightly to the left, and the new design would allow for an improved drive through line, parking, and improved drainage. With the rebuild, the size of the lease has slightly increased and McDonald’s plans to build an additional eight new parking spots.

Previously, when the neighboring Stop and Shop was approved for development, the town had required the grocery chain to build a covered seating area, with money placed in escrow for a later date. That seating area has yet to be built, but the approximately $120,000 still sits in escrow. According to the project narrative description found on Clarkstown’s site, the town still may require the McDonald’s to use that money to build a covered seating area, but as the construction has no began is seems unlikely at this point.
