Time To Party Like It’s 1999

For the first time in 27 years, the New York Knicks are on their way to the NBA Finals. 

If you haven’t realized it by now, time to wake up and smell the beautiful NY coffee. 

Nothing and I mean nothing unites New York City more so than the New York Knicks when they are humming and firing on all cylinders. 

It’s been a long time coming. 

For the better part of two decades, the Knicks franchise was in the abyss. 

After Patrick Ewing’s final game in the 2000 Eastern Conference Finals, the Knicks were one of the worst franchises in the NBA for 20 years. 

From 2001 up until Jalen Brunson’s arrival in 2022, the Knicks won a grand total of 9 playoff games. 

Since 2022, the Knicks have won 35 playoff games. 

And this postseason, it’s been taken to a whole new world. 

The Knicks have put together an all time stretch of playoff basketball that will be remembered forever. 

Since Game 4 of the first round series against the Atlanta Hawks, the Knicks have won 11 consecutive playoff games. 

In those 11 victories, they have outscored their opponents by 262 points. No that is not a typo. 262 points!

Over the past few years, it’s been easy to see why the city has fallen in love with this particular group of players. 

It truly is a team. 

I did not have the opportunity to see the championship Knicks teams of Walt Clyde Frazier, Willis Reed and Bill Bradley, but the fact that Clyde Frazier sees similarities between the two units should speak volumes. 

The Knicks and their fans can now bask in the euphoria of the week plus build up and anticipation for the first NBA Finals in this town in a long, long time. 

If you are someone that remembers falling short in the draft lottery, missing out on Lebron and KD and the Lance Thomas & Langston Galloway days. 

Cherish this moment indeed.
