On May 27, 2026, at approximately 10:28 p.m., two officers on patrol were flagged down in the area of the Gesner Drive apartment complex regarding a reported stabbing. Officers quickly encountered the suspect, later identified as 31-year-old Malik Baptiste of Spring Valley. Mr. Baptiste fled on foot, prompting a brief foot pursuit before officers successfully apprehended him.
The subsequent investigation revealed that Mr. Baptiste unlawfully entered a residence located at 18 Gesner Drive and stabbed a male guest inside the home in the presence of a child. Mr. Baptiste also caused damage to several items within the residence. The male stabbing victim refused to cooperate with law enforcement.
Mr. Baptiste was arrested and charged with PL 140.30(3) Burglary in the First Degree, PL 140.30(2) Burglary in the First Degree, PL 140.25(2) Burglary in the Second Degree, PL 265.02 Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, PL 145.05(2) Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree, PL 260.10(1) Endangering the Welfare of a Child, PL 195.05 Obstructing Governmental Administration in the Second Degree, and PL 205.30 Resisting Arrest.
Mr. Baptiste was arraigned before the Honorable Judge Mellion in the Village of Spring Valley Justice Court. Bail was set at $50,000 cash, $75,000 bond, or a $100,000 partially secured bond. Mr. Baptiste was transported to the Rockland County Jail.
The next day, on May 28, 2026, at approximately 10:30 AM, the Spring Valley Police Department responded to the area of 53 Sneden Place West following a report of a stabbing. Responding officers found a woman suffering from a stab wound to her right eye requiring immediate medical assistance.
Spring Hill Ambulance arrived on scene and transported the female to Westchester Medical Center. Shortly after the incident, a description of the suspect was broadcasted, and an alert patrol officer observed the male and was able to safely take him into custody.
Oniel James, a 40-year-old from Spring Valley was charged with Assault with Intent to cause Serious Injury (Weapon) a B-1 Felony, Assault in the 2nd Degree, a D-2 Felony, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon, an A Misdemeanor.
James was arraigned before the Honorable Judge Tenemil where he was remanded to the Rockland County Jail.
These two stabbings are not related.
A Criminal Complaint is merely an accusation; the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
