Nominate a “Healing Hero” Today

The NYS Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs has added a new award to its annual Code of Conduct program dedicated specifically to nurses in the human services field. Timed to coincide with National Nurses Week (May 6–May 12), the Healing Hero Award recognizes nurses who go above and beyond to ensure the people they serve are treated with dignity and protected from abuse and neglect. Recipients exemplify unwavering advocacy, clinical excellence, and a deep commitment to person-centered care.

Each year, the agency spotlights direct care workers who demonstrate a strong commitment to the provisions of the Justice Center’s Code of Conduct. The Healing Hero Award is a new honor included in the annual Code of Conduct Award program for 2026.

Any nurse who has signed the Justice Center’s Code of Conduct and works in a setting under the agency’s jurisdiction is eligible for nomination. Those selected for an award will be notified via email and honored with a special award ceremony at their employer.

The Justice Center encourages colleagues, supervisors, and community members to recognize the nurses who make a meaningful difference every day by submitting a nomination. The deadline for submissions is May 15, 2026.
