GenOn, the current owner of the Bowline power generating facility in West Haverstraw will be hosting an informational open house on the proposed project on Saturday, November 17 from noon – 4 p.m. Attendees can learn more about the project, meet and talk to Gen On representatives, submit questions, share ideas and learn about opportunities for public comment on the Bowline 3 petition.
GenOn is one of 85 organizations that have responded to Governor Cuomo’s “Energy Highway” initiative request for information with a proposal. To introduce the $1 billion proposed project to the community, GenOn has been operating a visitor center from 2 – 6 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays as well as noon to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.
The company has told the community that about 700 construction jobs and 25 permanent jobs would be created under the proposed plan for what they describe as an “environmentally friendly” power plant. GenOn Energy has submitted an application to the NYS State Board on Electric Generation Siting and the Environment to amend existing permits to construct and operate Bowline 3, a 775 MW natural gas plant at GenOn’s Bowline Generating Station located at 140 Samsondale Avenue in West Haverstraw, New York.
