Shades Repertory, Haverstraw Plans Busy 2012-2013 Season

On December 20 at 8 p.m.ย the Shades Repertory Theater will be a unique adaptation of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol,” an Equity-staged reading developed by Suzanne DuCharme.

Before that on November 30 and December 1, both days at 8 p.m., there will be a winter play “Final Tally” written by Samuel Harps, producer at Shades. This is a story about two students who apply various tactics to lure votes from a mutual friend during a heated election for Student Government President.

In the cast will be Sara Colten, Samantha Mercado, Amanda Tonnessen, Kelcie McNamara amd Mary Margeret Gavin. Final Tally is produced by the Haverstraw Youth Theatre.

On December 14 and 15 Shades presents “The Present” written and directed by Harps. The play is about the North Star (Polaris) shining brightly over a Brooklyn neighborhood as a mysterious drifter, with a special gift, arrives on Christmas Eve. The drifter delivers the present of a child to the inhabitants of a Brooklyn tenement.

In the cast are Keith Bullock, Rahiem Wilson, Ebonee’ Collens, Justin Smith, Donna James, Jelani Jeffries, Matt Masiello amd Amanda Castro-Conroy. Both shows will be at 8 p.m.

Starting on January 19 at 8 p.m., award-winning playwright Harps will facilitate “Playwriting From Beginning To End” at the Haverstraw Youth Theatre. This will involve character, plot development, structure, and scene breakdown.

Participants will write a one act play to be read to an audience at the end of the eight week session.ย From March 10 there will be an Artist’s Reception “The People Of The Appalachian Mountains'”, photography by Noel Fernadez at Shades.
