HAVERSTRAW TO SPONSOR NEW YORK STATE SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT

New venue: Manny Lopez Complex

The Haverstraw Little League has been awarded, by Little League Baseball and Softball International-Williamsport, PA, the New York State Senior League Softball Championships (ages 14-16) for the next three years.

HLL has hosted and sponsored the championships for the past four years, and based on the success of the tournament and the local support, Little League International has decided to continue the tournament at Haverstraw through the year 2015. This year’s dates will be July 19-23.

There will be a an exciting change this year as the Village of Haverstraw’s new Manny Lopez Complex will be the host site for the championships. Over the past two years, this new complex has been the home for some of the best Girls Upper Level Softball Leagues in the State.

With the pending completion of the refreshment stand, press box, bathroom facilities and other additions this spring, and the acknowledgement that this is one of the finest playing fields in the state for softball, the Village of Haverstraw and the Haverstraw Little League have agreed to hold the tournament at this new location.

There will be six teams representing the 6 sections of New York State that will play in the Double Elimination State Tournament. A team from Rockland NY District 18 will compete to qualify for the State Tournament the week before in a Sectional Tournament (also to be held at Manny Lopez).
