Senator Carlucci to Host Public Hearing on Comprehensive Campaign Finance Reform for New York State in Rockland County

VALLEY COTTAGE–With numerous reform proposals circulating in the state’s capital, Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) announced that he will be hosting a public hearing in Rockland County into overhauling New York State’s campaign finance and election laws. The purpose will be to solicit testimony from experts and the general public about the best ways to fix New York State’s outdated electoral system and restore trust in our political process.

The hearing is centered around increasing accountability, closing glaring loopholes, and implementing a public financing system for state and local elections. It also will draw upon the latest research to help voters and members decide which reforms are most pressing and appropriate for the current system.

“New Yorkers are demanding change in the way our government and political system operates and conducts business, and I can think of no more fitting way to gauge their pulse and hear their ideas than by holding a public hearing in our own backyard,” said Senator Carlucci. “Now is the time to be proactive when it comes to cleaning up any stench of corruption or perceived conflict of interest in our system. I look forward to listening to my constituents and bringing their ideas with me to Albany.”

The hearing will take place next Wednesday, May 8 at 3 p.m. at the Valley Cottage Library, located at 110 New York 303, Valley Cottage. The event is open to the public and residents are encouraged to attend. Anyone who wishes to testify must submit written testimony in advance as speaking time will be limited per individual.

Residents who wish to speak must RSVP by contacting Senator Carlucci’s office at 845-623-3627 or email [email protected].
