One strategy employed by opponents of the Champlain Hudson Power Express that would dig trenches through the CSX rail right-of-way and other areas in Stony Point and Rockland County is dead for the time being, as Assemblyman James Skoufis told the Rockland County Times a bill to ban the annexation of land via eminent domain by foreign corporation dead.
Assemblyman Skoufis said, “I certainly talked to whomever I could up in Albany to push this bill. The bill’s sponsor was Assemblyman Joe Morelle. Needless to say, I’m very disappointed the Judiciary Committee didn’t act on it.”
Anti-CHPE activist Susan Filgueras of Stony Point Action Committee for the Environment said, “I am afraid this bill has quietly passed away.”
Local state officials Ken Zebrowski, Annie Rabbitt and Ellen Jaffee also supported the bill.
