PEARL RIVER, NY Aug. 5, 2013 — O&R is implementing a three-year, $35-million construction program to help reduce the frequency, number and length of electric and gas service outages suffered by O&R customers during severe storms. Pictured here, O&R crews this week are working on a $400,000 system hardening project in Monsey. O&R is replacing 24 existing poles with new taller, stronger poles along Viola Road between Spook Rock Road and College Road. Those thicker poles will support new heavier cable to expand the electric system and improve the service reliability to this area. The cost of these projects is funded by O&R’s re-prioritizing existing capital budgets and will not increase electric rates, company officials claim.
