At last week’s Pinnacle Awards the Rockland Business Association (RBA) honored Brega Transport Corporation with an “Excellence in Transporation” award.
Not everyone was in agreement with the RBA’s assessment, though.
Brega is currently embroiled in strife with its workers over the status of their contract and health benefits. Before the Pinnacle Awards commenced, union advocates from the SMART (sheet metal, air rail and transportation) union managed to leaflet the banquet hall, placing a letter of protest on every seat in the house.
The RBA and Brega took the incident in relative stride. Other winners named that evening include: Dr. Mary Jean Marsico, superintendent, Rockland BOCES, the Chairman’s Award for Overall Business Excellence; Carmine Marchionda, executive director, ARC of Rockland, Outstanding Achievement Award by a Non-Profit Organization; Larry Weiss, president/CEO, Atlantic Tomorrow’s Office, the President’s Award for Service to the RBA; Sam Fratto, IBEW Local 363, Award for Corporate Citizenship; and Judith Kydon, executive director, St. Dominic’s Home, the Outstanding Achieivement Award by a Woman In Business.

Brega Transport has a meeting with the Union before his next award for “Business Leader Of The Year” in May. Hopefully by then the Union will not have reason to embarrass Brega again.
