UPDATE – According to the Cliffview Pilot, police sources now state the deaths were an apparent suicide. The couple held hands and leaped to their fate according to a witness, a police source told www.cliffviewpilot.com. Suffern Police are holding a press conference tomorrow as they had been looking into the couple for other reasons. NBC reports the pair was suspected of strangling an uncle to death in Suffern. The press conference is scheduled for 10 a.m.
Suffern residents Gary W. Crockett, 41, and Nickie Circelli, 40, were found by rescuers in the Hudson River 1,000 yards south of the George Washington Bridge yesterday, and died shortly after getting pulled out of the water.
Suffern PD is hosting a press conference tomorrow at 10 a.m. for a “suspicious death.” Police have not confirmed whether the pair jumped or fell via some other means.
Port Authority Police said no note was found. Workers had reported seeing something fall from above to below out of the corners of their eyes, prompting the attention of police.
The pair was brought to 125th Street Pier, Cliffview Pilot reported, and then rushed to St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital where they were pronounced dead soon after.
