A day after a proposed ceasefire fell short, Israel intensified its offensive today, targeting senior Hamas officials with airstrikes in Gaza.
The Egyptian-sponsored ceasefire briefly raised hopes that the week long slugfest between Israel and Hamas would come to an end Monday morning, but Hamas balked at the terms and fired 47 rockets at Israel. The Israeli government then ordered its military campaign to resume.
More than 210 Palestinians in Gaza have died and the first Israeli casualty was reported Tuesday near the border. The latest Palestinian casualties were four boys between the ages of 9 and 11 years old. They all have the same last name and are believed to be cousins who were playing on the beach at the time of the attack.
