Poem of the Week: Love of Hook Mountain

By Lakee Taylor

Trees stand over us as stare across the river
The train rolls along silently from this distance
Silver body sparkling from the sun
Towards Yankee Stadium
Listen on the radio for a hit
Cooking out of a picnic table grill
Jet skis buzz by
Fireflies light up Upper Nyack lawns
Water slaps the concrete reminiscing of Nyack Indian pow wows
Hook Mountain
Small sailboats slide along the tide
Mallard ducks meet and quack
Mountain of happiness
Sandy shore no swimming permitted
Rules are bent for locals
